“My Legacy on One Page: To Help Students Become Well-Educated Citizens”

Because my husband of 58 years died on Oct. 16, 2021, I have been confronted face-to-face with the fragility of life. This has led me to think very seriously about my own impermanence and the intentional legacy that I need to leave behind for this and upcoming generations.
I decided to pour out this legacy all on one page. In the various links below, I have memorialized not only “my story” but those things that I believe are vital to restoring our nation.
Now if the Lord takes me home today, I will have left behind those keys learned through 81 years of success and failures.
My goal for most of my life has been to do everything in my power to help the doors of opportunity to be opened to students. They must have the tools to be able to function successfully in this life, and I believe those tools are based upon their having a strong education foundation. If they have that strong education foundation, students can then build healthy and fulfilling lives on it which are centered on truth rather than on ever-changing whims.

The Texas Alternative Document (TAD) is the only K-12 English / Language Arts / Reading (ELAR) curriculum standards document ever written before or since July 1997 by current classroom teachers. When I was all set to offer our TAD free to the state of Texas at the State Board of Education meeting in July of 1997, Texas Education Commissioner Mike Moses denied me that opportunity.
In May 26, 2008, I revised/updated the TAD and renamed it the “English Success Standards.” This document is still free for the taking because we English teachers who wrote it have never claimed any copyright nor attribution privileges.
